The Tony Smith Catalogue Raisoneé is a multi-publication project that will put forth a comprehensive record of the artist's bodies of work in sculpture and architecture. It will provide scholastic foundations for future study, interpretation, and analysis of the artist's work and legacy.
Against Reason: Tony Smith and Other Modernisms are individual books to be published alongside each catalogue volume -- on sculpture and architecture. These books will have newly commissioned writing and visual projects. The books will offer renewed reflections on works by the artist and the history of abstraction.
To be published by MIT Press, the Tony Smith Catalogue Raisoneé Project -- four books overall -- will serve as comprehensive documentation of the depth and complexity of the artist's career in sculpture and architecture while positioning Smith's oeuvre in dialogue with contemporary discourses on art and culture.
